Delhi rape accused held in Bihar, five-year-old victim battling infection


A 25-year-old youth allegedly involved in the rape of the five-year-old girl in the national capital was arrested here early this morning, police said.
Manoj Kumar was apprehended from Chiknouta, his in-law’s village, at around 2.00 a.m.from here in Bihar, 50 Km from Patna.
The youth was arrested by a team from Delhi with the help of local police.
The accused, who has come here by a train from Delhi, was traced after tracking his mobile phone location, police sources said.
Kumar had married recently and his wife had come to her parent’s place two days back.
The accused, working as labourer in Delhi, is a native of Bharphua village of the district.

Remanded till April 23
The accused was produced before the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM-West) Shatrughan Singh this morning who granted his transit remand till April 23.
After acquiring the transit remand, Delhi Police team is taking the accused to the national capital.
Police sources said the youth has confessed to his involvement in the barbaric act.
President expresses shock
Shocked and anguished at the rape of a five-year-old girl here, President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday called for urgent introspection to identify causes behind repeated failure of society to ensure security of women and children.
He also sought urgent steps for bringing perpetrators to immediate justice.
“I am shocked and deeply anguished at the latest incident of sexual assault and rape of a five-year-old child in Delhi.
I join her family in praying for a speedy recovery and call upon concerned authorities to ensure the best possible medical attention for her,” Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson Venu Rajamony quoted the President as saying.
While seeking urgent steps to bring the perpetrators to immediate justice, the President said, “As a society, we must introspect at the erosion of values and our repeated failure to ensure the security of our women and children.
