yaswanthpur-accident Chennai, Apr 10 (TruthDive): At least eleven coaches of the Muzaffarpur-Yeshwantpur Express passenger train heading towards Yeshwantpur derailed today morning at Sitheri near Arakkonam, in which two people were killed while more than fifty were injured, said railway officials. The accident took place around 6:00 am in the morning due to which several trains were also said to be cancelled, said the Railway officials. The mishap took place approximately 100 kms away from Chennai. Rail traffic on the Arakkonam junction came to a standstill, putting office goers to severe problems. Railway officials said that exact cause of the accident could not be known. A number of trains coming from Chennai such as the Kovai Express, the Bangalore Express, the Duronto Express and the Brindvan Express have been cancelled and many trains were also said to be delayed. A TV report in the morning claimed that four people were feared dead and a number of people were injured in the mishap. In the accident, five AC, five non-AC and one pantry coaches were said to be derailed. However, rescue operations are under process and officials said that more details about the accident are awaited. In a similar accident in 2011, nine people were killed when Chennai Beach-Vellore Cantonment Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) train collided with the Arakkonam-Katpadi passenger train from behind when the train was waiting to get signal at Sitheri Station.
